HEARTGARD Plus green contains two active ingredients, Ivermectin and Pyrantel, that work together to prevent heartworm disease. It also controls hookworms and roundworms.

How does Heartgard Plus Chews for Medium Dogs work?

Heartgard Plus Chewable includes Ivermectin, a broad-spectrum antiparasitic compound used to prevent heartworms in dogs by eliminating heartworm larvae that have infected them in the previous 30 days. Heartgard Plus prevents the disease by destroying larvae and preventing them from growing into juvenile and adult heartworms. Pyrantel Pamoate, an anthelmintics, is also present, which is used to prevent roundworms and hookworms. The monthly application of Heartgard Plus may assist to minimize the burden of roundworm eggs and hookworm larvae in the environment, lowering the risk of reinfection.

Heartgard Plus must be administered monthly, preferably on the same date each month. If given seasonally, the first dose must be given within 30 days of the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes. The last dose must be given within 30 days after the dog's last exposure to mosquitoes.

Note:

Administered orally at monthly intervals (recommended minimum dose level of 68 mcg of Ivermectin & 57 mg of Pyrantel of body weight).

Please consult a veterinarian before starting any treatment and ensure your dog is tested for heartworm disease.

Directions

Heartgard Chews Dosage for Dogs:

  • Get your pet tested for existing heartworm infection before you start the Heartgard Plus/Nuheart prevention program
  • If the pet is not infected by heartworms then start administering Heartgard Plus/Nuheart on a monthly basis
  • Give the oral treatment in accordance with the weight of the pet
  • On missing a monthly dosage, contact your veterinarian immediately for advice
  • You can also break down the tablet into pieces for ease of swallowing
  • Remove the tablet from the pack only at the time of administration

Heartgard Plus & Nuheart Safety Measures:

  • All dogs should be tested for heartworm infection before starting a preventive program.
  • Do not skip the monthly dosage, as there are chances of pets catching heartworm infections.
  • Ensure your dog consumes the entire dose.
  • Consult a vet if the dosage is missed for a period of more than 2 months.
  • Store in a cool and dark place away from sunlight.

  • Do not administer to pets sensitive to the ingredients. Collie breed is more sensitive to the effects of Ivermectin administered at elevated dose levels. It is recommended to use in collies when used as recommended by the label.
